EXCURSIONS & ACTIVITIES

Some of the best places to visit in Germany are near the Hohenhaus Hotel:

  • Old Town of Erfurt

Experience and discover the historical old town of Erfurt during a guided tour. Our tip: A walk over the Krämerbrücke is a wonderful starting point. Towers shape the silhouette of the city of Erfurt, but a local delicacy called Rostbrätel and tram streetcars also belong to the charming city on the Gera.

  • Bad Frankenhausen

Visit the Kyffhäuser Monument on a trip to Bad Frankenhausen, admire the monumental painting of Werner Tübke from the Peasants’ War of 1524-1525 in The Panorama Museum, or let yourself be impressed by the ruins of Falkenburg above the Barbarossa Cave.

  • Weimar

We highly recommend a trip to Weimar. Visitors can check out the houses and museums of Friedrich Schiller and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and stroll through the charming streets of the old town. We would be happy to inform you about the castles and palaces near the city, as well.

  • Wartburg in Eisenach

Only about 15 kilometers away from the Schlosshotel Hohenhaus lies one of the most beautiful destinations in the area: the Wartburg castle. The UNESCO World Heritage site is perched high above Eisenach and offers tours of the medieval building that hosted notable guests like Saint Elisabeth, Martin Luther, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Thuringian counts.

  • Eschwege, Bad Sooden-Allendorf and Witzenhausen

These three towns score points with the power of tranquility. Check out half-timbered houses and a town hall with a chiming bell in Eschwege. See a cherry festival and the “Liebfrauen” church in Witzenhausen. And don’t miss the river Werra, the 754 meter-high mountain range Hohem Meissner, the medieval tower Diebesturm and the wellness retreat Werratal Therme in Bad Sooden-Allendorf.

  • Friedenstein Castle in Gotha

A visit to the Friedenstein Castle in Gotha, one of the first Baroque palaces ever built, should not be missed. The palace boasts a beautiful orangerie, the Ekhof-Theater (which still uses the original Baroque machinery for changing the scenery), and substantial gardens.

  • Wilhelmsburg Castle

If you plan a trip to Wilhelmsburg Castle in Schmalkalden, you’ll discover a unique structure that will carry you away through history. There’s even a permanent exhibition in the castle called “Rise into the New Age” that delves into the Renaissance and Reformation periods.

  • Wilhelmshöhe Castle in Kassel

Above the city of Kassel, Wilhelmshöhe Castle invites you to a cultural exploration. The Neoclassical building dates back to 1786 and now houses one of the most important art collections of its kind. The Old Masters Picture Gallery in Schloss Wilhelmshöhe enjoys a world-wide reputation. The graphic collection, the antique collection and the Weißensteinflügel museum are also impressive.

  • Arms Museum Suhl

If you’re interested in weapons and their production, then a visit to Europe’s special museum for hand-held firearms, Waffenmuseum Suhl, is a must. Visitors will gain insight into the almost 600-year history of the Suhler gun manufacturer with exhibits than span three floors.

  • Rotenburg an der Fulda

Discover what alley-romanticism really means during an excursion to the historic town of Rotenburg, which offers a picturesque landscape, magnificent half-timbered buildings and small shops in the city center perfect for curious wanderers.
